Another wonderful weekend spent at Boyne Valley International Film Festival. My heart is so full after 3 days of friends, films and fun. Thank you to those who came to my 'How to Make a Short Film' Workshop on Saturday, it was a pleasure to meet you all. A heartfelt thank you to Frank Kelly and Collette Farrell for treating us so well and making us feel like royalty for a weekend. You guys are blazing the way and showing everyone how it should be done! And lastly, a massive congrats to my pals Em & Tam at Pale Rebel Productions for their win with Sound & Colour! So richly deserved. The first of many for that beautiful film!

Short Film Workshop at BVIFF2310/7/2023 Thrilled to be invited to deliver this workshop at Boyne Valley International Film Festival this August. IFTA Awards Ceremony16/5/2023 Thank you so much to the Irish Film & Television Academy for a really wonderful night last weekend. It was such an honour to have 'Wednesday's Child' nominated for 'Best Live-Action Short Film' alongside some of my favourite filmmakers in Ireland. A massive heartfelt congratulations to Ross & Tom on their well deserved win for 'An Irish Goodbye' - can't wait to see what's next for us all!  EDA Nomination2/5/2023 So honoured to share that I have been nominated for an Emerging Director Award at this year's EDA Ireland Ceremony for 'Wednesday's Child'. I am amongst some wonderful and talented people and couldn't be happier! Thank you to the EDA Panel and congrats to my fellow nominees.  The awards ceremony will take place in The Sugar Club, Dublin on the 11th of May. Tickets can be purchased here. So thrilled to share that 'Wednesday's Child' took home the award for Best Irish Short at the 2023 Catalyst International Film Festival last weekend! It was an honour to screen alongside such amazing short films and we are so grateful for this acknowledgement. Thank you to Susan, Aoife & all at the festival - see you next year!   'How to Make a Short Film' Workshop16/3/2023 I am so excited to announce that I am partnering up with Shimmy Marcus and Bow Street Academy to deliver this 2-day workshop on 'How to Make a Short Film'. To quote Bow Street Academy: "We're thrilled to present our new Workshop 'HOW TO MAKE A SHORT FILM' Led by @IFTA Short Film Nominees Laura O Shea (Wednesday's Child) & Shimmy Marcus (Rhinos). The Workshop will demystify what goes into making a Short & how to find and express your creative vision. Covering all the basics from Pre-Production through to the shoot and Post Production through to promoting your film, this is a great opportunity to learn simple and effective tools for bringing your idea to life."  IFTA Nomination for Wednesday's Child11/3/2023 I can't believe I'm saying this but Wednesday's Child has been nominated for an IFTA in the 'Best Live-Action Short' category. So blown away. A huge heartfelt thank you to the Academy and to the entire cast and crew of the short. This is just so wonderful. Huge well done to the fellow nominees! See you all on the red carpet!  Discovery Award Winner27/2/2023 Absolutely blown away to share that I've been chosen as a Winner for the Discovery Award at the Dublin International Film Festival this year. It was an honour to just be in the mix with those wonderful creatives, I am so grateful. A massive thank you to Grainne, the jury and the programmers for a wonderful weekend. This means the world! Commenting on the winners, the judges said: “As jury members, we’re thrilled by the breadth of talent and skill on display from this year's 5 Lamps Discovery Awards nominees. It was a real privilege to spend time watching and carefully considering the submitted work. Although our conversation started off discussing how challenging it was to compare the different disciplines, it was clear very quickly that there were in fact three nominees we felt stood out. Writer/director/actor Laura O'Shea is someone in full control of her craft. The assured direction, pacing and lightness of touch with such a difficult topic in Wednesday's Child was particularly impressive. "
Discovery Award Nominee8/2/2023 I can’t express how thrilled I am to be nominated for a Discovery Award at this year's Dublin International Film Festival. I’ve seen many people that I admire get this nod before me over the years and this really means the world. Thank you to the festival & all involved. Big congrats to all the nominees! DIFF selection for Wednesday's Child20/1/2023 'Wednesday's Child' will have it's Dublin Premiere at the prestigious Dublin International Film Festival, running from Feb 23rd to March 4th. The short screens as part of Shorts Programme 1 on Friday the 24th of Feb at 3:30pm at the Lighthouse Cinema. Thrilled to be included in such a strong line-up of short films!
